Layers of Study
Loss Prevention Studies deal with the development of detailed plans and designs for security features, controls and systems. The primary goal of any such study by Johns Brothers Security is to devise a system configuration which satisfies basic requirements, while incorporating the added dimensions of preventing misuse and malicious behavior. All system designs by Johns Brothers are performed to create the most effective system and the most cost effective level of expenditure.
The burgeoning field of security engineering has identified three elements to physical security: obstacles, to frustrate trivial attackers and delay serious ones; alarms, security lighting, security guard patrols or closed-circuit television cameras, to make it likely that attacks will be noticed; and security response, to repel, catch or frustrate attackers when an attack is detected.
In a well designed system, these features must complement each other. There are at least four layers of physical security: environmental design; mechanical and electronic access control; intrusion detection; and video monitoring.
The goal is to convince potential attackers that the likely costs of an attack exceed the value of making the attack.
